HANDS launches new housing communities in the Little Italy neighborhood

Wedneday May 6, 2009 (Erie) - Housing And Neighborhood Development Service (HANDS) held a ground breaking ceremony 1711 Hickory Street (near the intersection of 18th and Hickory Street in the City of Erie). The ground breaking commemorated the construction of four single family homes that will benefit low income first time home buyers in Erie. The construction of these 4 new homes follows construction of three homes that were built in 2008 and sold to first time homebuyers.
At the same time, the announcement marks the development of North Coast Place Apartments that will be built at the corner of 18th and Hickory Streets. North Coast Place will offer safe, affordable rental housing for persons with chronic disabilities and will consist of 10 apartment homes. The North Coast Place development is a joint effort between HANDS, the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, and the City of Erie.

The event included officials from HANDS, the City of Erie including Mayor Sinnott, members of the Little Italy Revitalization Association, the Sisters of St. Joseph Neighborhood Network, and citizens from the Historic Little Italy neighborhood and involved a ground breaking ceremony.
In addition, information concerning a Lease-to-Purchase option was made available to help homebuyers work towards home ownership in the event that permanent mortgage is not immediately available.
