HANDS is committed to assiting local communities and residents with their affordable housing needs. That's why in addition to offering quality affordable rental of apartments and single-family homes, HANDS also offers home ownership opportunities. for the past 10 years HANDS has worked with the City of Erie and various community groups to make home ownership opportunities available to qualified individuals.
To be eligible for HANDS home ownership programs, households must:
- Be low-to moderate income (less than 80% of the City median income adjusted for family size)

- Contribute at least $1500 of their own funds towards the purchase and closing cost
- Complete home ownership counseling from an approved housing counseling agency
- Demonstrate the ability to obtain a mortgage loan from the lender of their choice
- Sustain ownership during a period of affordability, which is typically 15 years
- Some of HANDS home ownership programs are restricted to first-time homebuyers (those who have not owned a home for three (3) years) and/or have further income or programmatic restrictions
